Embedding
The purpose of embedding a sample in a resin is :
- During a manual polishing: to ease the grip of the sample
- During an automatic polishing: to gather a number of samples in a sample holder under optimum tightening conditions.
During the polishing step the embedding permits to limit the edge effects. The choice of a resin suited to the hardness of the material to be polished will make the checking of the sample’s periphery possible.
Various resins are available :
- Cold resins for fast operation
- Hot resins for minimum shrinkage
Cold resins series 600
601.2 Resin Single component transparent resin, very fluid, with low shrinkage with MM 807 blue light device |
605 Resin Methylmethacrylate resin, polymerised very quickly, stands up to the main forms of chemical attacks. Used with the machine MM 806 |
607-2 Resin Modified polyester resin, shrinkage of below 0.2%, ideal for very hard materials. Used with the machine MM 806 |
609 Resin Methylmethacrylate resin, transparent, it is ideal for high precision parts. Used with the machine MM 806 |
Machine for cold embedding
With the pressure device MM 806
With the blue light device MM 807

Hot resins
602 and 622 resins A green phenolic resin with organic and mineral fillers, used for embedding all materials before a current checking. |
Resin 632 Black charged phenolic resin charged with fiberglass, it has a good resistance to abrasion and very little shrinking, this resin is perfectly adapted for the embedding of hard and semi-hard materials. |
Resin 633 Black epoxy resin charged with fiberglass with high quantity of organic fillers. The extreme hardness and the absence of shrinking of this resin make it ideal for embeddings intended to edge checking. |
Resin 616 Transparent acrylic resin mainly used in order to visualise the evolution of the sample's prepolishing. It is convenient to all materials |
Resin 604.3 Copper resinous The sophisticated production technique of this pure copper based resin permits the optimisation of the conductivity of your embedding. The electric energy is brought to your material without difficulty. The use of ultra pure constituents suppresses all risks of analysis error on your materials. |
