print

Back home: S

Definition:

A metallographic sample must be:

- representative of studied metal

- cut up and polished so as not to hammer-harden the surface of metal by mechanical deformation, and to allow the revelation of the true microstructure by attack.

- free from stripes of polishing holes and traces of liquid

- polished so as to preserve inclusions

- enough flat to allow an observation with high magnification
